Dr. Jonas Salk left a huge legacy on the world.
Dr. Salk left a legacy that is so amazing. Because of him, not many people get Polio, and if they do, there are now cures. In 1940-1950, Polio would kill or paralyze about a half of a million people every year. Dr. Salk was the first person to create a cure for Polio that actually worked. This treatment saved the future president, Franklin Roosevelt, in 1921. Dr. Salk not only find a cure for Polio, but he also looked for a cure for AIDS and HIV. He started a medicine institute in 1967 and named it the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Medical studies are still done in the Salk Institute. At this time scientists and doctors are searching for a cure for cancer, Alzheimer's, and other infectious diseases at the Salk Institute.
A fun fact is that on October 28 2014, Google dedicated their homepage to Jonas Salk, it was his 100th birthday. (Picture is shown above)
